Uvaia / Eugenia Pyriformis is a tiny, open-crowned evergreen shrub or tree indigenous to southern South America, including Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and southern, central, and eastern Brazil. Brazil, where the plant is commonly grown in home gardens and orchards, both for its fruit and as an aesthetic tree, values edible fruits highly. The fruit is edible and has a flavor that is sweet yet bland. It also has a lovely scent. Depending on the cultivar, the pulp has a sweet to acidic flavor and is thick and extremely succulent. Fresh versions are consumed as well as juices, jellies, etc. The odoriferous, yellow fruit can range in size from globose to pear-shaped. The wood has a medium grain and is sturdy, weighty, and extremely long-lasting. It is only employed locally for things like poles and fence posts. The wood is used to manufacture charcoal and as fuel.
