Healthy plant in Jiffy bag with prepared Soil mix.

PLANT SIZE : 10 - 15 cm ( Jiffy Bag)

DIFFICULTY

LIGHT

Syngoniums prefer bright, indirect light but can adapt to low light. Variegated varieties, like 'White Butterfly' or 'Neon Robusta,' maintain better color in brighter light, but avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch leaves.

CARE TIPS

Watering:
Moderate Watering: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Syngoniums prefer slightly moist but not soggy soil. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure the pot has good drainage.
Humidity: These plants enjoy humidity; mist the leaves occasionally or place the plant near a humidifier, especially in dry environments.
Temperature:
Warm Temperatures: They thrive between 60-80°F (15-27°C). Avoid cold drafts or temperatures below 50°F (10°C), as this can cause stress and leaf drop.
Soil:
Well-Draining Mix: Use a light, well-draining potting mix. A mix with peat and perlite works well to retain some moisture while allowing excess water to drain.
Fertilizing:
Balanced Fertilizer: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks. Reduce feeding in the fall and winter when growth slows.
Pruning and Shaping:
Control Growth: Syngoniums can be trained as climbing plants or pruned to maintain a bushier shape. Regular pruning encourages fuller growth and removes any yellowing or damaged leaves.
Repotting:
Every 1-2 Years: Syngoniums grow quickly and may need repotting every 1-2 years to prevent root binding. Use a pot that’s just one size up to avoid water retention in a larger soil volume.
Pest Prevention:
Check for Pests: Syngoniums are generally pest-resistant, but occasionally inspect for common houseplant pests like spider mites or aphids. Clean leaves and treat with insecticidal soap if needed.
