Birba/Rollinia fruit plant is native to tropical South America and is cultivated for its edible fruits, commonly known as Biriba, Lemon meringue pie fruit, or Wild Sugar-Apple, throughout the world's tropics and subtropics. The fruit is big, conical, or round, green when not ripe, and maturing in yellow. The aromatic flesh is glossy white or translucent with a jelly-like texture. The skin of a ripe Rollinia fruit will peel off easily and the flesh is fibrous with a smooth consistency, almost creamy and contains small elliptical seeds, dark brown, not edible. Rollinia fruit has a mild-acidulous flavor with shades of pineapple, banana, coconut, and other tropical flavors. Ripe fruit is easy to cut into two or wedges. The pulp may be removed using a spoon or spoon and the seeds discarded. Rollinia fruit is high in calcium, phosphorus, vitamin C, iron as well as protein and carbohydrates.
