Pitabu Exotic Fruit Plants (Willughbeia Angustifolia)
Pitabu/Willughbeia Angustifolia is a species of flowering plant, a woody monoecious vine in the Dogbane family, that is native to Southeast Asia. The species occurs in the Nicobar Islands, Malay Peninsula, Singapore, Sumatra, Borneo, and the Maluku Islands, where it is found in lowland and hill mixed dipterocarp forests. Pitabu has smooth, long wide oval leaves. Small white blooms are arranged in short cymes in the axillary inflorescences. Round, yellow to orange berries with a latex-filled epicarp, small seeds, and a sweet orange sarcotesta makes up the fruits. The bright orange, soft and juicy pulp has an excellent flavor. The baseball-sized fruit looks a bit like orange and yellow passion fruit.
