KAK JAM Fruit Exotic Fruit Plants (Lepisanthes Rubiginosa)

Kak Jam Fruit/ Lepisanthes Rubiginosa is an evergreen shrub and is covered in white to yellow-white clusters of flowers. This fruit ripes red through purple and black. The flavour of this fruit is somewhat acidic and bitter. It can grow from a large shrub to a small tree, Fruit is like a globose berry, crowned by a cup-shaped limb, the size of a pea. It will be black or purple when ripe. Leaf decoction is advised to take for the treatment of anaemia. Leaf juice is taken to treat dysentery. The plant is harvested from the wild as a local source of food, medicines and wood. A subacid flavour, but somewhat astringent. The ovoid fruit is long and is borne in large clusters.
