DIFFICULTY

Moderate maintenance

LIGHT

Phanera aureifolia thrives in full sun to partial shade. It prefers at least 4-6 hours of sunlight daily to bloom profusely. If grown indoors, place it near a sunny window where it can receive bright, indirect light.

CARE TIPS

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water your Goldleaf Bauhinia regularly, especially during periods of active growth or hot weather. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent overwatering, which can lead to root rot.

Soil: Use a well-draining, fertile soil mix rich in organic matter. A soil mix designed for flowering shrubs or tropical plants is ideal. Ensure that the soil pH is slightly acidic to neutral (pH 6.0-7.0) for optimal growth.

Fertilizing: Feed your Goldleaf Bauhinia with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer formulated for flowering shrubs or tropical plants. Apply fertilizer in spring and summer, following the manufacturer's instructions for dilution and application rates. Avoid fertilizing in late fall and winter when the plant is dormant.

Pruning: Prune your Goldleaf Bauhinia regularly to control its size and shape, remove dead or damaged branches, and promote bushier growth. Pruning can also help manage the plant's growth and enhance its overall appearance. You can prune it after flowering to maintain its shape and encourage new growth.

Protection from Frost: While Phanera aureifolia can tolerate some cold temperatures, it is sensitive to frost. If you live in a region with frosty winters, consider providing protection with frost cloth or mulch during cold snaps. Alternatively, you can grow it in a container that can be moved indoors during the colder months.

Pest and Disease Control: Monitor your Goldleaf Bauhinia for common pests such as aphids, scale insects, and spider mites. Treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal diseases.
