Coral Berry/Ardisia Elliptica is a small evergreen shrub or tree, native to Southeast Asia, the West Coast of India, Sri Lanka, Indochina, Malaysia, Indonesia, and New Guinea, and commonly known as the Shoebutton Ardisia, Duck's Eye, and Coralberry. The fleshy berry fruit are rounded, have a slightly sour taste with a hint of starch, and their colour quickly turns from green to red when still quite immature, then they eventually turn deep purplish or black in colour at maturity and contain a single round hard seed surrounded by a whitish coloured pulp. The berries are known to be among the healthiest foods on the planet, to the point of being defined as "Superfruits." The merit of this name lies in the excellent wealth of fibres, vitamins, minerals, and bioactive phytochemical compounds, particularly polyphenols.
