Camu-Camu/ Myrciaria Dubia is a species of plant in the family Myrtaceae. It is a small bushy riverside tree from the Amazon rainforest in Peru and Brazil, grown in a dry environment and is also used for medicinal purposes. The Camu-Camu fruit is a small fruit, averaging 2 to 3 centimeters in diameter, and has a round, oval, to ovate shape. The fruit’s skin is smooth, taut, and semi-thin, appearing green when young and transitioning into variegated red-green to dark red-purple hues when ripe maroon or purple-black when fully ripe, around, with either sweet or acidic flesh. Underneath the surface, the white, pale yellow to green flesh is soft, aqueous, and succulent, encasing anywhere from 1 to 4 brown seeds. A reddish pigment in the leathery skin of the fruit imparts a pink color on juices extracted from Camu-Camu. The aroma is subtle.
