The fruits are typically red when ripe, though they can also be yellow or orange. The thin, translucent skin encases a juicy, sweet-tart pulp with tiny, edible seeds. The leaves are simple, ovate, and have serrated edges. The tree has a dense, spreading canopy and can reach heights of up to 20 feet.
