Moderate maintenance

Plant your 'Purple Gem' in a location that receives full sun to partial shade. It prefers at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight per day for optimal growth and blooming.

Watering: Water your 'Purple Gem' regularly, especially during the growing season (spring and summer). Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between watering sessions.

Soil: Ensure that the soil is well-draining to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. A mixture of garden soil with added organic matter like compost or peat moss works well.

Fertilization: Feed your 'Purple Gem' with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer during the growing season to promote healthy growth and abundant flowering. Follow the instructions on the fertilizer package for proper application.

Pruning: Prune your plant regularly to maintain its shape and encourage bushy growth. Remove any dead or diseased branches, as well as spent flowers, to promote continuous blooming.

Mulching: Apply a layer of organic mulch, such as wood chips or shredded bark, around the base of the plant to help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.

Protection: 'Purple Gem' is generally resistant to pests and diseases, but occasional checks for pests like aphids or spider mites are advisable. If detected, treat them promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Winter care: In regions with frost, provide protection to your plant during the winter months. Mulch around the base and consider covering it with a frost cloth or moving potted specimens indoors during extreme cold spells.
