Alocasia grandis, often known as Elephant Ear due to its large, broad leaves, is a stunning tropical plant. Enormous, heart-shaped to shield-shaped leaves with prominent veins, often green and glossy. The leaves can grow quite large, contributing to the plant's common name, Elephant Ear. Upright and robust growth, typically reaching heights of 6-10 feet (1.8-3 meters) in optimal conditions. It forms a clump with multiple stems arising from a central rhizome.

LIGHT

CARE TIPS

Watering:

Requires consistently moist soil. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry. Avoid waterlogging, as it can lead to root rot.
Ensure the plant is not allowed to dry out completely.
Humidity:

Thrives in high humidity environments. Regular misting, using a humidifier, or placing the plant on a pebble tray with water can help maintain adequate humidity levels.
Temperature:

Prefers warm temperatures between 60-85°F (15-29°C). It is sensitive to cold and should be kept away from drafts and temperatures below 50°F (10°C).
Soil:

Requires well-draining, fertile soil. A mix of potting soil, peat moss, and perlite or coarse sand ensures good drainage and aeration.
Fertilizing:

Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding during the fall and winter when growth slows.
