Moderate maintenance

Ardisia crenata prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some shade but will not thrive in deep shade. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, especially during the hottest part of the day, as this can scorch the leaves.

Temperature: Keep the plant in a location with temperatures between 60°F to 75°F (15°C to 24°C). Protect it from cold drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations, as it prefers stable conditions.

Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch, and allow excess water to drain away. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely, as this can lead to leaf drop and other issues.

Humidity: Ardisia crenata appreciates moderate to high humidity levels. You can increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly or by placing a humidity tray filled with water and pebbles beneath the plant.

Soil: Use a well-draining, acidic soil mix for Ardisia crenata. A mix formulated for acid-loving plants or a mixture of peat moss, perlite, and pine bark works well.

Fertilization: Feed your plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring through early fall). Avoid fertilizing during the winter months.

Pruning: Prune Ardisia crenata as needed to maintain its shape and remove any dead, damaged, or leggy growth. You can also prune to encourage bushier growth.

Pests and Diseases: Keep an eye out for common pests such as spider mites, aphids, and scale insects. Treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Watch for signs of diseases such as leaf spot or powdery mildew and address them accordingly.

Propagation: Ardisia crenata can be propagated from stem cuttings taken in spring or summer. Dip the cut end of the stem in rooting hormone and place it in a pot with moist potting mix. Keep the cutting in a warm, humid environment until roots develop.
